Abstract

Purpose: evaluate well-being in people with functional diversity. Materials and Methods: That is why, a Wellbeing Survey was designed according to the PERMA theory with 52 young adults with intellectual functional diversity, as well as, subsequently, 22 semi-structured and exploratory Welfare interviews were conducted (9 young people, 8 mothers, a grandfather, a grandmother, three teachers and a social worker on campus), considering the same indicators of the PERMA theory. Results: The mixed-type research, based on the PERMA theory (Seligman, 2011) evaluated and obtained as a result that young people with functional diversity have a good repertoire of positive emotions, experience few activities that encourage their involvement both in school and outside of it, as well as ignore their main strengths personal. Conclusion: they do not have a social circle with peers, only with their family environment, which sometimes acts in an overprotective manner, particularly with women; they feel that their life becomes more meaningful when they are useful to other people and can help them, and their achievement is scarce, because they are not encouraged independence and autonomy.
