Abstract

Introduction: Burnout syndrome is a progressive process of emotional exhaustion and loss of professional interest, due to prolonged periods of stress. Objective: Identify the presence of burnout syndrome in 1st and 2nd year nursing students at the UAN. Materials and Method: Descriptive, cross-sectional and non-experimental study, sample of 347 students that was obtained for convenience. Data collection was carried out in March 2018; The Maslach Burnout instrument was used, which is divided into 3 dimensions; 1. Emotional exhaustion, 2. Disbelief, 3. Low Personal fulfillment. Results: 347 surveys were applied to 1st and 2nd year nursing students, obtaining a mean age of 19.53 years. The population studied did not reflect burnout syndrome, however, 18 cases were found at risk of developing it; It is perceived that it is emotional exhaustion that is present in second year students, being the women most affected. Conclusion: It is necessary to recognize the impact that the academic workload, the sociodemographic and academic conditions of the students can have on the development of the dimensions of burnout, as well as the syndrome itself.
