Introduction: Prolapse of the anterior vaginal wall (cystocele) involves the protrusion of the urethra and/or urinary bladder through the anterior vaginal wall. Objective: Explain the case of a patient undergoing reconstructive colpectomy focused on the Nursing Care Process, during the perioperative period. Materials and method: Observational, descriptive and retrospective case study with a focus on the Nursing Care Process in a woman undergoing reconstructive colpectomy surgery for Baden IV cystocele of approximately 4 years of evolution, in a second level of care public hospital in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. Results: During the perioperative period, with the use of the NANDA-I, NOC and NIC nursing taxonomies, it is possible to satisfy the physiological, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs, in a holistic way, managing to offer the patient quality care, performing interventions based on these needs and on a work methodology guided by science and evidence. Discussion: The existing literature regarding colpectomy is limited, which highlights the importance of documentation and dissemination of these cases. Conclusions: The surgical procedure is effective in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse. The interventions of the surgical nurse in the perioperative period must be timely and effective since it plays an important role in the comprehensive management to achieve the successful recovery of surgical patients.
