The loss of someone close to us through death is a shocking event that triggers stressful experiences that affect the quality of life and coping with death will depend on various factors. Objective: to describe gender differences in the perception of male coping strategies in the face of death. Material and Methods: qualitative, descriptive study, phenomenological design. The people in the study in the municipality of San Joaquín were selected 8 people from the municipal capital. Information was collected through a phenomenological interview. The study considered ethical and legal aspects. Results: dysfunctional and avoidant coping types are the most present in men and the main strategies are denial, isolation and anger, leaving aside problem solving, social support and emotional expression. The thought of men in the face of loss is to be strong and not show weakness to others because by doing so they generally feel discriminated against for expressing their feelings. Women believe that society, lifestyle, beliefs and culture strongly impact men's way of thinking and acting when facing death. Discussion and conclusion: coping strategies towards death in men are manipulated by social stereotypes and family education, and a lack of empathy towards the male gender is evident, which generates emotional repression.
