Experience of falls in older adults: an analysis from emotional intelligence

Introduction: The phenomenon of falls is one of great incidence in the elderly population. Likewise, it has different consequences on the individual's health, which can result in each person having a different experience of a fall. Accordingly, the elderly in rural areas is exposed to falling due to irregularities in the terrain. Objective: Describe the experience of a fall in older adults in rural areas. Methodology: Using the qualitative approach and the phenomenological method, a semi-structured interview was conducted with older adults from a rural community. Results and Discussion: The participants' arguments were classified into the categories autonomy for activities, emotional response, and social response. Conclusion. The experience of having suffered a stroke produces a decrease in the ability to carry out daily activities and leads to family overprotection. However, he expresses a desire to continue being an active person.
