Introduction: Vulvar intraepithelial neoplasms are rare; however, it should be noted that in recent years their incidence has increased significantly in younger patients, mainly due to the increase in genital infection by human papillomavirus. Objective: To describe the surgical intervention of partial vulvectomy in a 40-year-old patient with vulvar cancer, making an assessment based on Dorothea Orem's Self-Care Deficit theory, with a focus on the Nursing Care Process, during the perioperative period. Material and Methodos: Observational, cross-sectional and descriptive case study, focused on a patient selected in a second level of care public health institution in the city of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. Results: All nursing interventions were performed satisfactorily, which is why the patient had an uncomplicated perioperative and hospital stay. Discussion: The modification in lifestyle after the diagnosis of vulvar pathology in the study patient shows that it can be prevented by applying the self-care methods described by Dorothea Orem. Conclusion: The surgical nurse has an important role in the preoperative period, helping to the patient to manage her feelings and providing information about her condition and future surgery, in the transoperative period avoiding damage. In the postoperative period, the nurse carry out an adequate assessment, to avoid risks that could prolong their hospital stay, as well as teach the proper way of self-care and avoid a recurrence.
