Abstract

Objective. To determine individual personality traits, order and group them in dimensions, through the questionnaire of 16 Cattell personality factors, as well as to identify associations between personality traits and use of psychoactive substances in undergraduate internal physicians. Material and Methods. Descriptive and transversal. 58 doctors in training in High Specialty Hospitals of the State of Tabasco, Mexico; The Cattell 16 FP Questionnaire was used; and Indicators from the National Survey on Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Consumption (ENCODAT) for substance use. Data analysis was performed using the statistical program IBM SPSS Statistics version 25, determination of frequency distributions, central tendency and measures of variability, as well as levels of significance with the aforementioned program. Results. The highest values ??were: F + Impulsivity, Q4 + Anxiety state, E + Dominance and H + Situational Aptitude, the lowest values: Q3-Self-esteem, O-Consciousness, I-Emotivity and G-Group loyalty. The variable Substance Use is related to the factors F + (p-value .010) and N + Subtlety (p-value 0.039). Between factors and specific substances, correlation is found in F + / cannabis (p-value .002) and F + / cocaine (p-value 0.007); G- / tobacco (p-value 0.036) and Q3- / methamphetamine (p-value 0.018).
