Abstract

The state plan for the development of the executive power 2018 - 2024 of Yucatán is aligned with the objectives of sustainable development 2030 (SDG 2030), where health is an essential component of any development strategy. Objective: The study aims to determine the socioeconomic factors and practices that influence good health self-perception in rural families in Yucatán. The analysis of self-perception of health in rural areas is pertinent since the head of the household (man or woman) is the one who makes decisions about the best allocation of human, financial, physical, and natural resources available for their social, economic reproduction and recreation. Material and Methods: With a quantitative and cross-sectional approach, the study carries out an exhaustive analysis in the rural areas of Yucatan through a representative sample of 313 households from 22 localities in 14 municipalities in the center and south of the State.  Results and Conclusions:The findings suggest that socioeconomic factors are associated with the self-perception of good health in rural households in southern Yucatan. The use of chemicals and agrochemicals is closely related to the self-perception of fair and poor health; good health is closely associated with herbalism.
