Abstract

Objective. Describe the case of a patient who underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy for uterine leiomyomatosis with a focus on the Nursing Care Process (PAE) during the perioperative period. Material and Methods. Case study, observational, prospective, longitudinal, descriptive with application of the Nursing Care Process (PAE) in the perioperative period of a 33-year-old woman, with monorane, uterine leiomyomatosis that began two years ago with dysmenorrhea and menometrorrhagia in a second level public hospital in Mérida, Yucatán. Results. The care performed by the surgical nursing professionals during the perioperative period decreased the real and potential problems, achieving as a result a short hospital stay without complications. Discussion. The study reflects the importance of the care of the surgical nurse during the perioperative period, due to its effectiveness in the recovery of the patient. In the preoperative period, the patient was observed with anxiety, doubts, anemia, monorane, with probable adhesions from previous surgeries, which allowed anticipating future complications; the implementation of the PAE allowed a quality care that responds to the human responses of the patient. Conclusions. Uterine myomatosis is the main cause for surgical intervention with abdominal hysterectomy.
